ORCAS GoFundMe Campaign
Launching the ORCAS GoFundMe: Help Us Raise $100,000 for Autism Safety
At ORCAS Society of BC, we believe that Safety Begins with Understanding.
Today, we are proud to launch our GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $100,000 to help build safer, more inclusive communities for people with Autism across British Columbia while also supporting the start-up costs needed to build a strong foundation for this new organization.
Why This Fundraiser Matters
For many individuals with Autism, everyday situations can quickly become overwhelming, especially during emergencies or interactions with first responders. At the same time, first responders want to help but may not always have the tools or training needed to understand the unique needs of someone on the autism spectrum.
That’s where ORCAS Society of BC comes in.
Our mission is to bridge the gap between the Autism community and first responders through education, resources, and safety initiatives that support both sides.
As a newly launched non-profit, we are also working to build the infrastructure needed to operate effectively and sustainably.
Your support will help us not only launch impactful programs but also cover essential start-up costs so ORCAS can grow and serve communities across British Columbia.
What Your Support Will Make Possible
Funds raised through this campaign will help ORCAS expand critical programs designed to improve Autism Safety and First Responder awareness, while also helping establish the organization during its early stages.
Your support will help:
Develop sensory-friendly safety materials that help individuals with Autism communicate during emergencies.
Provide Autism awareness resources for first responders, helping police, firefighters, and paramedics better understand and support autistic individuals.
Deliver community safety education programs that empower individuals with Autism and their families.
Build stronger connections between the Autism community and emergency services so that trust replaces fear in moments when help is needed most.
Support start-up and operational costs, including educational materials, outreach, technology, and program development needed to launch and sustain ORCAS initiatives.
Why This Campaign Is Personal
ORCAS Society of BC was founded by Sylvain Formo, Autism Director, who is also autistic.
As the first autism-led non-profit of its kind in British Columbia focused on Autism safety and strengthening the connection between first responders and the Autism community, ORCAS brings lived experience into everything we do.
Sylvain understands firsthand how important it is for autistic individuals to feel safe and understood in their communities—and how powerful it can be when first responders have the knowledge and tools to help.
This campaign is about turning that understanding into real change.
